If the device tends to reside for periods close to a geofence, many alerts may fire as the device apparently hops back and forth across the geofence due to variance in GPS position. When setting this up, bear in mind the variability of GPS fixes. Now, when that device leaves the specified area, you get notified. From the dropdown, link the device to the newly created geofence and notification. Create a notification of type 'Geofence exited'. You can associate a device with a geofence and a device with a notification.Ĭreate a geofence (circle or polygon). Also, remember to check licensing regarding use of Google's tile server as this changes on occasion. Apparently it is possible to specify which objects are included in the Google maps hybrid layer, via javascript (but perhaps not URL parameters). I have yet to figure out how to hide these when pulling these tiles in Traccar's UI. Google Hybrid can also prove useful but can become cluttered with the growing number of business markers. I switch between Open Street Map (built-in) and Google Satellite (as custom tile server). Under 'Server settings' -> 'Permissions', I keep all options unchecked. Option to specify a POI (points of interest) layer (URL of a kml file defining POIs that will be overlain on the map layer) Map layer - choice of layers plus the option to specify one custom tile server.Īn initial map view (latitude and longitude of map centre and a zoom level). The following options can be defined at server level and overridden at user level: Server and user preference are very similar. I then create a group and make my own device (android phone) and the dog trackers members of it. Then, add a user with read-only rights on devices.Īs admin, I create devices for dog trackers as well as one android phone Traccar client. I modify the exisiting admin user login details. These types of object only become significant when associated with specific devices. Then, there are secondary objects such as groups, notifications, calendars and computed attributes. There's no association as such between, say, your personal tracking device and your user account in Traccar. The main objects in Traccar are server, devices and users. Traccar web interface map screen UI options and usage Concepts Worst and least likely outcome, Traccar does not yet support the protocol used by the device. Invalid/Unknown protocol requires reconfiguring ports/protocols in Traccar or changing the port number in the on-device config. No connection logged points to network/port issues. In this case, something should be logged when the device attempts to connect. The port may be configured for use with another protocol. In which case you will see no connection logging. It may be the case that the remote port the device is sending to is blocked, not forwarded or not activated in Traccar. The ID of which you use as the 'identifier' when adding the new device in Traccar's admin interface. In Traccar's log, you should begin to see connections from 'Unknown device'. For example, TKStar refer to this as 'adminip' and it can be read using SMS command 'adminip123456' or 'check123456'. Before making changes, record the existing settings. Retain the existing port number for the time being. in Traccar, create a device profile that references the new device's ID.Ĭhange the tracking server IP address stored on the device, to the public IP of your traccar server.configure the address of the server you wish it to send to.install a SIM card and verify you can send instructions to and receive replies from it.Connecting tracking devicesįor each tracking device you intend to use with Traccar, you need to: Traccar comprises various network services: Simple webserver and JSON based API (with which client user interfaces communicates) and a series of tracking device handlers, each listening for a different protocol on a different network port. Database backed storage is generally preferred. With a small number of users and devices, the file storage copes fine. Traccar supports file based storage (the default) as well as several databases. Traccar is a Java application with an installer for Linux and Windows, as well as guidelines for installing it on several other platforms. Consequently many features, such as the intricacies of a multi user setup, are not considered. This is an overview of Traccar as a personal dog tracking system. This includes a few of the tracking devices listed here. Traccar is an open source GPS tracking server that supports a large number of device protocols.
